...97...
...back in 2001, a young Doug Brown walked into my training room for the first time...
...little did I know that #97, was going to be a constant in my life for the next 10 years...
...for those of you who know me you may know that I am a little jaded when it comes to sport...
...not in the area of performance...but in EFFORT...
...to me EFFORT IS EVERYTHING...
...I have seen gifted athletes who may shine on the field, with little effort...
...but this is only for a brief moment in time...and soon their flame fades...
...I COULD NOT BE LESS IMPRESSED BY THAT...
...to me if it is easy it isn't worth anything...and often turns in to nothing...
...I like earned success...
...and I have had the pleasure to see this first hand by training one of the CFL's best Canadian players of all-time...
...what you have seen over the past 10 years of #97's career...is not a coincidence...
...it is not just "unleashed" on weekends and put back in the cage for another week...
...he has decided to be successful...and does all of the things required to do so...
...which is often WAY over-and-above...of what other CFL players choose to do...
...let me give you a great example...
...last year at the end of the Bomber season, when it ended a little earlier than 97 wanted it to...
...I got a phone call before his shoulder pads dried out from the last game...
..."fISH, When can I get back in the gym?"...
...before you knew it...while some of his team mates where still cleaning out their lockers...
...Doug was back on his 5 day a week training schedule...
...which was strictly adhered to... rain, shine, snow, sleet, injury...win or loss...
...until TODAY...Doug's last workout at ELITE as a pro-athlete...
...don't get me wrong...his success had so much more to do than training with ELITE...
...it did however have a lot to do with the mind set that pushed him through the door of ELITE, EVERYDAY...
...PERSISTENCE AND DETERMINATION ALONE ARE OMNIPOTENT...
...and on this weekend, when our pal, Doug get taped up for his last game...
...that hopefully ends with him drinking out of the Grey Cup...
...for everyone who has seen his football season last a full 12 grueling months of the year...
...for the last 10 years...know that him being there has absolutely nothing to do with luck...
...it was HIS CHOICE...
Doug,
thank you for allowing me to be a part of your success...I have had the opportunity to work with some many CFL players before, but only the honor of having to have worked with a few.
Your dedication to the city of Winnipeg, your TEAM and ELITE...has been nothing less than what legends are made of.
Not just your trainer...but your pal,
fISH
