...Superbowl Sunday, just a week ago...
I made my way down to the beach to watch "the" game....and watching is not my thing at all. There were a couple hundred of my new closest "friends" screaming at a screen and stuffing their faces with food and Coronas. I sat back and watched for a bit...appreciating the athleticism of the game, but never a real fan of watching anything on TV...at the half, I mosied on up for another plate of refried beans and a couple of tortillas and noticed a bit of a skirmish down the beach a bit...
Guarding the beans and "torts" with my life, as they are my favorite food of all time, I walked down the beach about a hundred yards and as the figures appeared through the darkness, noticed that there was a "Superbowl" of another league going on...
..a large group of some of Puerto Morales finest beach football players were out competing in a game of their own. Playing with a t-shirt rolled up in string (for a football) and a little sketchy on the rules...there was no less heart and intensity displayed than what I was watching on the billion-dollar production, just yards away.
...as the big-screen lights died down a couple hours of later and the champagne drenched Mr. Brees celebrated a win and a skyrocketing endorsement value, our sand-covered "warriors" still played strong...
The next morning...I woke up thinking about last night's big game. As I waited for my omelet to arrive, I heard many comments on the heroes of last nights big game, but none of the names or big plays were familiar to me...the players that were in my head were Luis, Carlos, Jesus, Diego and Jaime.
the heroes of last night's big game were not given a heavy bonus for their performance last night...but I am sure what they took out of it meant just as much to them...and finally... I truly enjoyed watching a game.
